Saturday 19th September 2015. 10am to 4.30pm at the Mercure Dolphin Hotel, Southampton.
Session 1: The Science Behind High Notes
In the first session of the day, we delve into the what and the why of high notes. What makes the choruses of our favourite pop songs so tricky? Why is it so difficult to hit the final notes in Defying Gravity, just like Idina Menzel did?
As a singer or teacher, you may have heard that ‘vocal tract manipulation’, ‘formants’, ‘harmonics’ and ‘inertance’ all have a part to play in awesome singing. In this first session, we reveal these secrets of the pros… along with anatomy, acoustics and the important relationship with vocal style.
Session 2: How To Master The High Notes
This is all about taking what we learnt in session 1, and turning it into magic. What tools, exercises and training can we use to become a master of our high notes?
Some methods have been around for years, for good reason… they work! Some don’t, and that is why they are being replaced with new practices, all derived from the latest science. In session 2, we outline what you can do to master your high notes and nail that song you’ve always wanted to nail.
Session 3: High Note Mastery In Action
In session 3, we work with five singers, live on stage. Singers will choose their song prior to the event and will have a live lesson with Chris and Steve using everything we learnt in sessions 1 and 2.*
As a singer, you can truly understand how to apply these concepts to your own songs. It’s also been said that this session has been especially valuable for teachers who are looking to apply these methods in lessons.
* The cost of working with Chris and Steve in this environment is more than 50% less than the cost of a normal lesson. £10 for a twenty minute lesson.
